McKinlay is a remote region located in the west of Queensland, Australia, bordered by Western Australia and the Northern Territory. Here are some interesting facts about the region:

1. The region was settled in the 1860s and was named after a member of the McKinlay family who was part of the Burke and Wills expedition.

2. McKinlay is home to one of the largest cattle stations in the world – Anna Creek Station – which is over six million acres.

3. The region is known for its mining industry, particularly its production of copper, lead, and zinc.

4. The small town of McKinlay, which has a population of around 20 people, is one of the most isolated towns in Australia and is 1,200km west of Brisbane.

5. McKinlay is part of the Diamantina Shire which is a major centre for sheep and cattle grazing.

6. The area is rich in indigenous history with rock art sites found throughout the region.

7. McKinlay is home to some of the best stargazing sites in Australia due to its remote location and lack of light pollution.

8. The McKinlay River is a popular spot for fishing enthusiasts with Barramundi, Yellowbelly, and Black Bream being common catches.

9. The region is home to a number of unique wildlife, including the bilby, echidna, and desert skink.

10. McKinlay played a significant role in the development of Australian aviation as it was the location of a Qantas Airways airfield and maintenance base during the early years of the airline.
